affirmations for kids

I've been diving deep into the idea of affirmations, or positive speech. I've been working on a list of morning affirmations for myself, and putting aside my feelings of being foolish or silly for saying them out loud every day. The reality is that our mindset about our circumstances absolutely affects those circumstances, at least I wholeheartedly believe so. I'm no genie and can't just conjure things out of thin air, but I know that my circumstances seem to shift when I change my attitude about them. I've really been working on speaking truth and life over myself, and it occurred to me that I'd really like to do the same for my kids.

Before bed one night, I penned a list of affirmations I wanted to start speaking over my children daily. Traits I hope they develop, things I believe about them and want them to internalize and believe about themselves.

I printed them out, framed them, and hung them in my children's room where I see them everyday. Our kids need to hear things besides "you're so cute" or "you're so pretty" or "good job!" They need us to give them the words to believe about themselves. They are strong. They are brave. They are kind. They are enough.

I made several different versions and am including the links here as a free download in case you, too, would like a tangible, beautiful reminder to speak words of life + truth over your children. Click each image to download that version. Images are 8x10 and can be printed anywhere that prints photos. Personal use only, please!

We as parents, as mamas, have such a beautiful and weighty job when it comes to raising our kids. Let's be intentional, yeah? Let's speak the things over our kids we want them to believe, amen? I believe we have the power, through our motherhood, to change the world. Let's get to work.

friday freebie: the mountains are calling

In celebration of my leaving tomorrow for one blissfully unconnected week in Montana, I'm sharing a little freebie! This sweet design is available as a free printable by clicking right here. Download it to your computer, print it out and dream of the mountains no matter where you are. I think mountains are my favorite of all God's creation. Well, besides my husband, but that's beside the point. See you September 9th! The mountains await!

Friday freebie: Philippians 4:19

Happy friday, friends! I'm really looking forward to a weekend of rest and relaxation and planning for a few spring projects we're gearing up for here at Casa Keinsley. We decided to post-pone moving for another year, so we're going to invest a teeny bit of money into getting our little home exactly how we want it in the meantime. Read: I'm finally pulling together our back porch!

I'm really excited to share this design freebie with you all today. I am definitely in a season of intense questioning and feeling SO in limbo. Waiting to hear if Matt got the police job we've been hoping for and praying about for over a year. On the heels of that decision/news come a whole host of other questions...where will we live? Will we be moved? What is God's plan for starting our family? Are we called to adoption? Should we move to Africa (yes, that's a serious question in my mind daily, much to my husband's confusion!) In seasons like this one, it's easy to feel like God is so far away, to feel like we are a solo ship in a great big ocean. But as I've been praying over the past few weeks and months, somewhat desperately, for answers, I keep getting these bits of encouragement, like God is whispering to me, "just keep going, I've got it." I'm being reminded on all sides, through Scripture, people and a slew of other things, that God has not abandoned us. I felt really moved to create this encouragement for you all, to hang in your office or home or set as your computer or phone background, just to remind you. God provides for all our needs. We may think we need that job transfer or the new house, but God has an INCREDIBLE plan and I'm constantly awed by His love and care for me. When I look back at the crazy crooked path of my life, I can so clearly see how God was writing my story and truly "writing straight with crooked lines."

Be encouraged! God is caring for you. He is meeting your every need and will continue to do so every moment of your every day.

You are so loved! Have a wonderful weekend <3

Fab Freebie: Work Hard & Be Kind

Happy Friday, pretty people! I am on my way to sunny southern California this evening for a whirlwind quick trip to see family, celebrate my papa's 85th birthday and spend one day exploring Los Angeles with Matt! I am SO excited. I bought new fonts this week, which makes me feel soooo extra fancy (#designerthrills) and whipped up this background real quick with one of my new pretty typefaces! This mantra is one of my favorites. The hate these days is crazy! It seems like everywhere I turn around, on social media especially, is negative comment after negative comment, mostly things people would NEVER say in real life, but we have this false boldness and carelessness that comes from hiding behind our screen. So, here's my motto. Keep your chin up, work really, really hard and be really, exceptionally kind and amazing things will happen. I promise!

P.S...prints of this are coming soon to my Etsy shop!

Fab Freebie: Valentine's Day edition

Happy Friday! I love Fridays. I've been working really hard at being intentional about using my weekends for rest--especially Sundays! One of my biggest goals is to truly take Sunday as a Sabbath day and not check email, work or stress at all. It's been working really well! It's hard to not respond immediately when I get a Facebook inquiry from a potential client or an Etsy notification flashes across my phone screen, but it's so worth it!

I'm so excited to introduce a new weekly feature: Fab Freebies! Everyone loves a good free download, right?! I'm always super inspired by the Dress Your Tech free downloads over at DesignLoveFest and am so excited to offer some pretty pixels for you all to jazz up your desktop, laptop, phone or even just to print and hang in your office! Plus, it gets me designing a little something just for FUN each week which is so good for me!

I love decorating for the holidays (as evidenced by our Christmas decor!) so any reason to create a holiday design is cause for me to celebrate. Set these pretty backgrounds on your phone or computer and instantly get in the Valentine's Day spirit! Are you celebrating with your special someone or best girlfriends this year? Matt and I are having a low-key evening. Probably just champagne, strawberry cupcakes and looking at honeymoon photos. I might wear a cute dress and go barefoot (perk of a date night in!)
