101 in 1001: the final update

101in1001-01 Roughly three years ago, I was introduced to the idea of a "101 in 1001" list. It's a list of 101 things to accomplish in 1001 days. Kind of like a bucket list, but not quite as extreme. Like, "be able to touch my toes" could be on there, right next to "go skydiving." I wasn't sure what to expect when I set out, but I really loved having it to refer to, and it was super fun to check things off and realize just how many life things I've accomplished over the last three-ish years! The official end date is next weekend (June 8th), but my birthday is tomorrow (the big 25!) so I decided to officially wrap up this 101 in 1001 series in preparation for a new list I'll be sharing next week--a 60 before 30 list! 60 things I'd like to do and/or learn over the next 5 years before the big 3-0. I'm really excited! I love these kinds of things :)

All in all, I think it was successful! I accomplished 42 of the 101, which sort of feels defeating but at the same time, that's 42 things I had not done or learned 3 years ago! I also threw out 6 of the things because circumstances changed (i.e. no more photography business, baby, etc.) I think next time around, I'll hang the list somewhere I'll see it! I never printed it out or displayed it anywhere, so it was mostly an afterthought most of the time. Like, "oh, wonder if I've crossed anything else off the 101 list." I think having it on display would make it more successful and also cut down on those I'm-so-uninspired-and-there's-nothing-to-do moments, since I could choose to do something from the list!

Okay, without further ado, here's the official final update to the 101 in 1001 list!

101 in 1001: an update

101-01 Over a year ago, I created my first 101 in 1001 list. It's a list of 101 things I want to accomplish in 1001 days, which is roughly three years. I had kind of forgotten about the list until I came across it while cleaning before the holidays, and was pleasantly surprised at how many more things I was able to cross off! I did my last list update in September of 2013 (where has the time gone?!) so I decided I was long overdue for an update! Only a few more months left to go on this list--although I know many of the things won't get done, thanks to Baby K on the way ;) But I'll definitely be creating another one (or maybe a 30 before 30 list?!) when this one expires!

#47

Happy Halloween! What a dreary, rainy day it is here--although, I think it adds to the Halloween vibe. It was SO windy and eerie this morning when I left the house. Super warm, still dark out, and the wind was blowing like crazy. I definitely felt a little creeped out!

For those of you that remember, I made a 3-year goal list a little over a year ago and have been hammering away at checking things off of it. I did a "here's what I've accomplished" round-up here, and committed to blogging and sharing as I crossed more things off the list! The list hangs right by my desk and inspires and encourages me to keep pushing myself, keep learning, keep growing and keep making the most of each and every day in this beautiful life.

So, #47. "Make apple pie (Matt’s favorite!) from scratch." Check and MARK! And it was even gluten-free :)

I combined two recipes for this baby, a gluten-free crust recipe from Joy the Baker and the filling recipe from Martha Stewart's "Martha's American Food" cookbook, which is a beautiful book to have on my counter. Pro tip: you can find the recipe online here. It was AMAZING. Matt is what I'd affectionally call an apple pie connoisseur, and he loved it. I don't think he would have even know it was gluten-free if I hadn't told him. Winner!

This won't be the last time I make this yummy dessert, that's for sure. Oh and bonus? Eating it for breakfast every morning :) Who says you have to do dessert last?!

XO, Val

101 in 1001, a year later

It is CRAZY to believe that I started my "101 in 1001" goal list a whole YEAR ago! I meant to blog every time I checked something off the list, but that clearly hasn't happened. So here I am, blogging about ALL the things that I've crossed off. And you what? I'm pretty proud of how far I've come. It's so easy to get so overwhelmed, and feel like you aren't doing enough with your life, even at a young age. Thanks to the world of social media and instantaneous updates and over-filtered-everything, it starts to feel like everyone is living a much cooler life, and doing so much more, than you are. If you feel that way, make a list like this. And in a year, go back and realize just how far you've come. It's a pretty amazing feeling. Cheers to two more years of rocking these goals ;)

101 in 1001

So, I follow the blog of our amazing wedding photographer, GAIL WERNER. I've been following it for a pretty long time; long before getting engaged was even on my radar. In addition to being sweet, down-to-earth and having amazing taste in music, Gail has so many great things on her blog that I always want to copy. From book reviews to monthly self-portraits to an ambitious GOALS LIST, it seems like everytime I click onto her blog I'm saying to myself "I want to do something like this." I've refrained from copying her...until now. I think the idea of a "101 in 1001" goals list is just so cool. She got the idea from THIS PERSON and so the cycle of borrowing (and hopefully self-betterment!) continues. Some of the things on the list were taken from Gail (and Melissa Jill!) We've all heard it: people who write down their goals are more likely to accomplish them. So this is less of a bucket list and more of a goals list. Some professional, some personal, some serious and some just downright for no reason other than to say I did. In 1001 days, which is about 3 years, I want to cross every single one of these things off this list.  Here's to three years of adventure and turning 25 with a whole lot of fun experiences (and new skills!) under my belt :)

Start date: September 10, 2012

End date: June 8, 2015 (here's a CALCULATOR I used to figure out the end date.)
