house dreaming

Matt and I are still a couple years out from buying a home, but we've started the super-vague-maybe-someday-this-will-be-real dreaming. We figured out a loose idea of what we'd like to spend and how long it'll take to save up a sizable down payment. Now, when we're out and about running errands, if we pass by a house that's for sale, we play a game where we guess how much it's going for, based on the amount of land, the house type, etc. We're mostly WAY off, because we're not real adults and have no idea how much these things cost, but it's fun to look up what houses around us are going for. In our wildest dreams, we'll end up with an old farmhouse on a couple acres, in serious need of some TLC. I have always wanted to makeover a house from top to bottom...so I'm hoping that someday, that's in our future! We'd fill the land with a huge garden, some chickens and of course a couple dogs (and, you know, probably a kid or two.) I did some Pinteresting (naturally) and looked at some farmhouse transformations--the results are STUNNING. It's amazing what you can do with a lot of patience and time! The patience thing I need to work on if we do go down this renovation road...

I also discovered that I'm really drawn to craftsman-style homes, bungalows and cottage types. I love the dormer windows, shingle siding, overflowing window boxes. Texture and color and character. Basically, I want to live at Green Gables. I LOVE our apartment and am in no hurry to move, but it's fun to start dreaming and picture where we might put some roots down :)

Here are a few of my favorite inspiration images from around the web...
