AUGUST GOALS

augustgoals-01It's here! August. The last month before Baby K joins our family (whaaaat!) August has always been my least favorite month of the year, by far. Give me dreary March over the oppressive heat + humidity, the angst over everything I didn't do that summer, the nervousness about a new school year, the general melancholy about another season of change. But! This year I am determined to not hate August. I am determined to work smarter, rest well, live intentionally and pack as much fun + quality time into this month as possible. July FLEW, but was a really great month, and I'm riding that momentum straight into August, too. Here's a recap of my July goals:

  • Soak in the Word
  • Prep for maternity leave
  • Enjoy my baby shower + Chelsea’s visit
  • Finish cleaning out our house + garage in preparation for the garage sale (this isn't quite done, but the sale is Saturday so you bet it's getting done tomorrow + Friday!)
  • Read 3 books that fuel my spirit
  • Contentment Challenge
  • Celebrate our godson’s baptism
  • Stay diligent in meal prep + practice discipline in eating well for my body

This month, it's a little less about doing and a little more about abiding. Drinking deep from God's word, soaking up this season for exactly what it is. Here are my August goals:

Monthly goals:

    • Finish maternity leave prep
    • Lots of quality time + adventures with Matt (on our list: state fair, floating down the lazy river at the rec center in town, lots of walks, kayaking on the lake, farmer's market, picnic, driving out to the cornfields to stargaze)
    • Continue the Contentment Challenge + connect it to prayer/Scripture
    • Soak in the Word
    • Read 3 books
    • Create meaningful new products for my shop
    • Savor this season - journal, take photos, feel all the feelings
    • Finish my time with The Archibald Project well

Weekly goals:

    • Focused prayer for pregnancy/birth
    • Focused prayer on contentment
    • Fast from social media on weekends
    • Build in time for intentional self-care
    • Goals check-in
    • Budget check-in with Matt (this is going to keep appearing until it's a habit!)
    • Purposefully encourage/uplift someone
    • Focused prayer for marriage
    • Focused prayer for motherhood
    • Diligent meal prep + discipline in eating well

Daily goals:

    • Worship throughout the day
    • Pray for baby boy
    • Love Matt well
    • Do my best
    • Drink enough water

And that's that! It's already off to such a great start and I'm excited for all this month will bring. Maybe a baby! Who knows :) What are your goals for August? Pop a link in the comments, or just share right in there! I'd love to hear :) xoxo!

JULY GOALS

julygoals-01 Whew, this summer is flying by. I remember back in February and March, right after we announced we were expecting, thinking this summer would just draaaaaag and drag. I remember as a kid that summer always felt like it took YEARS. Those loooooong lazy days where I had to entertain myself for HOURS (PS, thanks for that, Mom! truly inspired my creativity like none other) and the weeks on end of no school, no sports, no anything. I was actually kind of dreading this summer, thinking it'd feel extra long and excruciatingly so since we are awaiting the arrival of our sweet baby right after Labor Day! But, as it turns out I had absolutely nothing to worry about because this summer is FLYING! Hard to believe that the 4th of July has already come and gone, and now it's a whirlwind of travel, baby showers, garage sale prep, out-of-town visitors and getting all the last things tied up before our sweet boy joins us. Hard to believe we have just over 10 weeks until our due date. I'm holding the due date VERY loosely, though. I read that most first-time moms will go into labor on their own at 41 weeks and 1 day, statistically speaking. And some go even longer! So I'm actually sort of planning on that as a real due date (September 26th or later), instead of our actual date of September 18th. That way, if he comes before 41+1 (or anytime before 42 weeks!), I'll just be extra thrilled! And truly, we don't have much left to do. Some additions here and there to the nursery (that are not crucial by any means), a few home projects we'd like to squeeze in if possible, and after my shower in two weeks we'll know what else we need to get - we've still bought hardly anything! So far we've bought the crib (but no mattress, haha), a bouncer seat, a bumbo seat and an infant carseat + stroller travel system (that I scored for $60 from a friend). I won a few things in a giveaway and we've been given tons of hand-me-down clothes and accessories like shoes, hats, bibs, burp cloths and sleep sacks, and we have been soooo diligent in not buying anything else until after our shower and even then,we're going to try to stick only to necessities! I'm actually pretty proud of us. It's definitely been hard (especially once I hit third trimester!) but I know we will be so glad we held out and didn't buy tons of stuff before knowing what we truly need.

Anyway, all that to say, summer is flying and it's going to continue to do so. So! Here are my goals for July:

Monthly goals:

  • Soak in the Word
  • Prep for maternity leave
  • Enjoy my baby shower + Chelsea's visit
  • Finish cleaning out our house + garage in preparation for the garage sale
  • Read 3 books that fuel my spirit
  • Contentment Challenge
  • Celebrate our godson's baptism (so excited to meet our nephew/godson next weekend!!)
  • Stay diligent in meal prep + practice discipline in eating well for my body (it's been a WILD few weeks but I am determined to get back on track!)

Weekly goals:

  • Quality time with Matt
  • Sabbath rest
  • Budget check-in meeting
  • Create realistic work list + complete it
  • Fast from social media on weekends
  • Pray for pregnancy + delivery
  • Me-time for intentional self-care

Daily goals:

  • Praise the Lord + invite Him into my day
  • Give thanks
  • Love Matt well
  • Pray for our son
  • Drink enough water

What are your goals for July? Pop a link to your post or just drop them in the comments! XO!

JUNE GOALS

junegoals-01 JUNE! How are we in June?! May just whooshed by, didn't it? It was full of so much fun and celebration though, so no complaints. I feel like I accomplished sooo much last month while also enjoying a lot of time with family and friends, and I'm so grateful!

Here's a recap and how I did with my May goals:

  • Read 4 books (I’m taking a week-long vacation, and all I’m going to do is read!)
  • Start our DIY Bradley Method class
  • Take a restful + re-energizing vacation
  • Design + launch Vallarina Wedddings
  • Reorganize the master bedroom (we had to move a lot of stuff from the nursery to our bedroom and need to find storage for it all! Good thing organizing is my favorite!)
  • Take a fun + prudent trip to IKEA (Keyword: prudent. Haha!)
  • STICK TO THE BUDGET. NO EXCEPTIONS. (After our trouble sticking to the super strict spending challenge last month, we are being much more realistic this month. We made a normal realistic budget for ourselves and decided that we are absolutely 100% sticking to it, no exceptions. If it’s not written on the budget sheet, it doesn’t happen, period. If our cash envelopes are out of money, then that’s that. No exceptions. I’m hopeful we can stick to this! We are also meeting weekly to check in with our budget, instead of monthly like we’ve been doing.)
  • Celebrate my birthday simply + joyfully
  • Celebrate all the other birthdays + Mother’s Day well
  • Finish the LLB Proverbs 31 Study

Overall, May was a great month! Lots of margin and rest, mixed with serious hustle both in business and around the house. The nesting has kicked into high gear and we are knocking out projects left and right! That momentum is reflected a lot in my June goals as well; there are several house projects I'd like to get knocked out this month. Most of them are very close to completion already, just need to do those final few things to get them 100% done.  June's list is also very business-centric as I'm working SUPER hard to prep + plan for a maternity leave so I can truly rest and savor the season when baby boy arrives. So without further ado, here's my list of goals for June!

MONTHLY GOALS:

  • Read 3 books (I'm currently reading this one and this novel, and will probably finish this book of letters, too!)
  • Finish the Life Lived Beautifully Proverbs 31 study (rolled over from last month since it didn't happen!)
  • Work on house tidying (inspired by this aforementioned book!) and prep for the summer garage sale
  • Plan maternity leave
  • Finish branding school
  • Work on creating + implementing business systems
  • Complete the dining room mini makeover
  • FINISH the laundry room (get those pesky baseboards up!)
  • Paint the kitchen cabinets
  • Paint the nursery armoire
  • Start Project Life (used my birthday money to purchase my first-ever kit and I am SO excited!!)

WEEKLY GOALS:

  • Practice Sabbath
  • Two barre classes (three if I can swing it!)
  • Budget check-in meeting with Matt (chatting more regularly about the budget helped us a lot last month!)
  • Create realistic work list and complete it (my week list system is working GREAT! Will share soon.)
  • Love on someone
  • Intentional quality time with Matt
  • Pregnancy-focused prayer
  • Walk Scout
  • Fast from social media on weekends

DAILY GOALS:

  • practice Sabbath rest / self-care
  • Give thanks + chat with God
  • Love on Matt
  • Drink enough water
  • Practice joy

What are your goals for June? Any fun adventures planned? I have some fun adventures planned this month, including another IKEA trip with my mama, an antiquing adventure with my mom + mother-in-law, and the second annual river float with a huge group of friends! Can't wait -- it feels like summer is about to be in full swing! XOXO!

may 2015

maygoals-01 My favorite month of all time has arrived!! Oh, how I love May. May to me always marks celebration, true springtime, ushering in sweet summer and tons of time with family and friends. We celebrate our mamas, my younger brother's birthday, my birthday at the end of the month, Memorial Day and put the boat back in the water after its long winter in hibernation. I feel like the world comes back to life, fully, in May. Not to mention that it's a great time to live in Indianapolis, what with the "greatest spectacle in racing" here in my fave city this month! This month also holds a lovely, MUCH-needed vacation with my parents and brother (but I can't even talk about how sad I am that Matt can't come) and a visit from my BFF Chelsea, who I haven't seen in ages!! It's going to be a good month. I can feel it in my bones. It's also going to be a BUSY month, with lots of projects for business, The Archibald Project and personally. Gearing up for some seriously intentional work time, along with tons of playtime and rest. The best!

Here's a recap at my goals for April:

  • Complete an Instagram fast  (the original plan was to fast the entire month of April, which didn't happen. I'm still chalking this up as a win because I scaled wayyyyyyy back for 3ish weeks and gained a lot of clarity about the role I want Instagram to play in my life! I also deactivated my FB again, once and for all. Hooray!)
  • Read BabywiseIn Defense of Food and a fiction novel (reviews coming tomorrow!)
  • Clean out the baby’s dresser and purge + organize the baby’s room closet (the organized closet makes me OH SO HAPPY!)
  • Spending challenge from 7 (Totally missed the mark on this. I think we tried to veer way too far in the opposite direction after our budget fail in March. The challenge from 7 wasn't realistic for us in April, so we set ourselves up for failure. We're doing a much more realistic plan for May. We DID stick to the plan for the first two weeks of April, and were able to save a good chunk of dough!)
  • One date night without phones (So good! These are necessary for us. We ended up having a super good/hard/much-needed conversation about what life is going to look like here in a few weeks when Matt goes back to medic class and aired some feelings we both hadn't shared. Put the phones away, friends. It's amazing what happens when you really look into their eyes and just TALK.)
  • Design + list three product lines in my shop (I listed two of the three! I posted new Baptism and Graduation invites in April.)
  • Paint the baby’s room (DONE! So happy! See a sneak peek here.)
  • Celebrate the gender reveal (This was so fun! After the ultrasound appointment, we got cinnamon crunch bagels and marveled at the fact that we have a son. We narrowed our name list wayyyy down too. To announce the news, we gifted our parents little photo frames with an ultrasound photo, bought a "world's coolest nephew" onesie and took a photo to text to our siblings, and snapped a few photos with blue balloons to share on social media and stick in the baby book. It was a low-key, absolutely perfect way to share about our baby boy and I'll treasure the photos forever!)

The weekly and daily goals were WAY more of a struggle, so I'm focusing extra on those this month. I want to really establish good routines that ensure the things I want to focus on become habit! I truly believe it's the "little by little" that adds up to major change, so I'm investing a lot of energy into the little by little this month. That said, I also have some lofty overall monthly goals, and here they are!

MAY GOALS:

  • Read 4 books (I'm taking a week-long vacation, and all I'm going to do is read!)
If it's not written on the budget sheet, it doesn't happen, period. If our cash envelopes are out of money, then that's that. No exceptions. I'm hopeful we can stick to this! We are also meeting weekly to check in with our budget, instead of monthly like we've been doing.)
  • Celebrate my birthday simply + joyfully
  • Celebrate all the other birthdays + Mother's Day well
  • Finish the LLB Proverbs 31 Study

My weekly and daily goals are pretty much the same as previous months. I tried to focus them in a few key areas: spiritual life, marriage, self-care and work. I have a really good feeling about this month and am excited to see the progress at the end of it!

What are your goals this month? I'd love to hear! Happy Monday!

goals for april

aprilgoals-01 How is it already April?! How is it that I find myself once again confused at the first of the month, as to how we got here so quickly? Time. Is. Flying.

I am SO EXCITED for this month, though. My parents are finally home from 3 months in Mexico, and were formally introduced to the Keinsley Baby Bump on Monday. Easter this weekend, and I get to see my favorite Mimi (grandma), who I haven't seen since last September! The Indy Eleven home opener is next weekend, and oh how I love soccer season in my city. Plus, we find out if Le Bebe K is a wee little gent or a tiny little miss this month--April 28th!! It's going to be a month packed with celebration, sweet family time, fun weekends and soaking up the (finally) gorgeous weather. Which means I'm going to have to seriously buckle down and be super efficient during my work time, so I can really LIVE and REST during my off hours :) I'm excited to have my April goals dialed down--they feel realistic and doable (but of course, we shall see!)

Here's a quick recap of my March goals:

MONTHLY:

  • One intentional family adventure
  • Finish shopping for spring capsule
  • Register for birth classes (!!)
  • Clean out guest room + get it ready to be turned into a nursery
  • Read “Seven” + “Mary Heart” (trying again since I got super caught up in fiction last month!)
  • Celebrate someone else
  • Design + launch wedding products
  • Design + launch spring products
  • Study Proverbs
  • Plan/design photo books + scrapbooks (trying to catch up before baby is here!)

WEEKLY:

  • Barre class x3 (I actually only went twice per week, but decided that's more realistic and still gets great use out of my membership)
  • Blog x3 (I did this most weeks!)
  • One date night
  • One family walk with Scout
  • Complete weekly work checklist
  • Establish one business system per week
  • Social media-free weekends (even when Matt works!)
  • One Rosary
  • Business finance check-in
  • 80/20 Paleo (if we eat 3 meals a day 7 days a week, 17 of the 21 need to be Paleo. If I eat 2 snacks a day 7 days a week, 11 or 12 of the 14 need to be Paleo)

DAILY:

  • Praise the Lord + invite him into my day
  • Drink 100 ounces of water
  • Love on Matt
  • Take my vitamin
  • One act of self-care

A few of those goals I'm tweaking and rolling over into April, or just rolling over as-is. Progress, not perfection, right?!

So, here are my official April goals:

MONTHLY GOALS

  • Complete an Instagram fast. On a whim, I swore off Instagram last Friday. I wasn't sure how long it'd be for, but I really feel this pressing to do it for a full month. I posted quickly today about my friend Jen and the anniversary of her husband Nate's death, but now I'm off again for the rest of the month. Wish me luck!
  • Read Babywise, In Defense of Food and a fiction novel (probably one of the books already on my shelf!)
  • Clean out the baby's dresser and purge + organize the baby's room closet
  • Spending challenge from 7. I read 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess last weekend and it rocked my world. In April, Matt and I are spending money in only 7 places: the grocery store (for grocery items only--no jaunts down the home goods aisle), the gas station, online bill pay, church tithing, adding to our savings accounts, my barre membership (because I'll get charged a fee if I cancel before the minimum commitment is reached) and essential oils (because I won't be eligible for commissions unless I'm enrolled in a monthly autoship.) We went COMPLETELY off the rails in March budget-wise (more on that later!) and it was sobering and motivating. Here goes nothing!
  • One date night without phones (we nixed our date night budget for April--see above--so I'm hoping for just one solid date night doing something fo' free and phoneless!)
  • Design + list three product lines in my shop
  • Paint the baby's room
  • Celebrate the gender reveal (we aren't doing a party or anything, but I want to celebrate finding out if we have a son or daughter simply + well, even if it's just the two of us!)

WEEKLY GOALS

  • Barre class x2
  • Create a realistic work list each week + complete it by quitting time on Friday
  • Stick to the meal plan we create
  • Establish one business system
  • Give something away
  • Pray one Rosary
  • Pray with Matt once (we're working on prayer together--any tips for doing devotionals or prayer regularly as husband and wife? We struggle in this area.)
  • One family walk
  • Cook dinner together at least once

DAILY GOALS

  • Praise the Lord + invite Him into my day
  • Take. My. Vitamin.
  • Love Matt well
  • Give thanks
  • Drink enough water

There you have it!! Most of my weekly + daily goals are rolled over from month to month; the idea is that soon they'll become habits, rather than goals. Some of them are definitely well on their way, but I'm also majorly struggling in other areas. Oh well! What are your goals this month? I'd love to hear!

And just for fun, here's a photo from the real camera of the latest baby bump. Now that I don't have Facebook OR Instagram, where else am I supposed to post these?! Thanks to Elise for the snap :)
